Born and raised in Bournemouth, Callum Mitchell is the driving low-end force of Regional One. His journey into music began in primary school with an acoustic guitar, inspired by the soundtrack of Guitar Hero on the PlayStation 2. Though his first instrument met an unfortunate end, Callum’s passion was reignited at sixteen when he picked up a bass guitar – a Thunderbird he still plays to this day. Self-taught through YouTube tutorials, library books, and endless tabs, he developed a distinctive style shaped by influences such as Red Hot Chili Peppers, Primus, and Tool.
Much of Callum’s early musical discovery came through the soundtracks of Guitar Hero, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, and Grand Theft Auto, which introduced him to a wealth of alternative and less mainstream artists. His first live music experience came at Sonisphere Festival in 2014, quickly followed by Download and Bloodstock, where he discovered the power of rock and metal as a communal performance rather than just a private listening experience.
Callum joined Regional One around eight years ago, after a chance New Year’s encounter in town – his first and only band. Beyond the stage, he also hosts the band’s R1 Chats livestream podcast on YouTube, featuring conversations with musicians from across the scene. Highlights with Regional One in 2025 include performing at The Lighthouse in Poole with full lights and pyro, and taking his first trip overseas to Portugal to play in Guimarães, opening for Electron – unforgettable experiences that fuel his hunger to keep pushing the band to bigger stages.
